Community tourism is a public/private community collaboration among residents and organizations which can produce significant economic outputs while providing quality experiences to visitors. For a community’s hospitality and tourism industry to be successful the public/private collaboration among residents and organizations needs to be in sync and well-orchestrated. The UGA Hospitality and Tourism Research Initiative (UGA HOST Research Initiative) invites you to learn how Georgia hospitality and tourism industry leaders collaborate to position the state as one of the top destinations within the US. Speakers from government, non-profits, and the private sector will discuss how they are working toward elevating Georgia’s hospitality and tourism industry’s economic impact. Georgia’s Deputy Commissioner of Tourism Mark Jaronski will deliver the opening keynote presentation. Each speaker will share with us current successes and future challenges as the industry rebounds from the worst economic shock in the history of travel and tourism.
The UGA HOST Research Initiative is an interdisciplinary team of faculty, affiliated service staff, and research personnel who concentrate on engaging the state’s second largest industry to advance its economic contribution. The primary goal of the Initiative is to provide comprehensive hospitality and tourism research support that will enhance and enrich UGA’s ongoing community public engagement efforts. The research agenda is designed to support UGA Extension, UGA Public Service and Outreach, Center of Agribusiness and Economic Development, and other UGA hospitality and tourism publicly engaged programs in providing valuable industry nuanced information such as market research studies, economic impact analyses, and consumer demand trends. Research results conducted by the team will be used to support applications to larger federally and industry supported hospitality and tourism grant programs which engage hospitality and tourism efforts at the local, state, and regional community levels.
