21st Annual SER-CAT Symposium

In Honor of BC Wang’s Contributions to X-ray Structural Biology

Welcome to the 21st Annual SER-CAT Symposium hosted by the University of Georgia. The Symposium will be held at The Georgia Center for Continuing Education on April 17-18, 2024. It will include a celebration honoring Professor Bi-Cheng (B.C.) Wang for his contributions to X-ray Structural Biology over the past 55+ years.

Notably

  • In 1985, B.C. fundamentally changed how protein crystal structures are determined with his development of solvent flattening and its implementation in the Iterative Single Anomalous (ISAS) phasing package.
  • In 1997, B.C. founded a consortium of 25 institutions to build the Southeast Regional Collaborative Access Team (SER-CAT) as a Shared Resource that now provides dedicated synchrotron X-rays to the structural biology communities in the Southeast and beyond.
  • In 2000, B.C. produced a conceptual design for remote access to the SER-CAT Beamlines at APS.
  • In 2003, SER-CAT 22ID became the first beamline at the APS to provide fully functional remote access for data collection, processing, and structure determination via the web from the user’s home lab.
  • Today, under B.C.’s guidance, beamline 22ID at SER-CAT has become the most productive beamline (in terms of PDB entries) for the past decade.

The Symposium program is being finalized, with invited speakers from around the world presenting talks. We would be delighted if you could join us for the celebration.

A block of rooms has been reserved at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education Hotel until March 17.
