UGA Journeys: understanding your connection to the staff competency model (new performance tool)

As part of the Engage & Learn initiative, UGA has incorporated staff feedback to create UGA Journeys, a comprehensive employee performance management system designed to help staff grow in their careers, connect their work directly to departmental and university goals, and provide staff the resources and skills needed to lead.

Learning Objectives:

  • Provide staff intentional leadership development
  • Complete the Gallup CliftonStrengths® Assessment
  • Explore how the workshop’s participants can uniquely contribute to and work effectively with their team
  • Build a foundation for greater understanding of the UGA Staff Competency Model and New Performance Management Tool

Presenters:

Leslie Rogers, director – learning & development, UGA Human Resources
Leslie became a part of the learning & development team in June 2022. Before joining UGA, Leslie worked in the Oconee County School District for over 20 years as a classroom teacher, instructional technology coach, and staff professional learning coordinator. She is currently pursuing her doctorate in educational practice and innovation at the University of South Carolina, with a concentration in learning design and technologies. Leslie oversees the professional learning program for university staff, focused on organizational development and individual professional growth. She is also responsible for implementing and managing the Engage & Learn initiative, including the Engage & Learn grant program, staff mentor program, Staff Competency Model, and the Future Performance management process. Leslie is a proud UGA alumna, having earned her master’s degree in Latin and classical studies in 2001. She resides in Athens, GA, with her husband, Sean, and son, Eli, who is currently in college. She is a huge Georgia football fan and avid hiker, having completed over 400 miles of the Appalachian Trail with her hiker mom group.
James Crawford, senior manager – learning & development, UGA Human Resources
James joined the UGA learning & development team in September 2022. James has been at the University of Georgia since 2017, where he worked in the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs as the assistant director for staff development and the staff development lead for the Division of Student Affairs. Before becoming a Bulldog, James worked at Vanderbilt University in the Office of Greek Life within the Office of the Dean of Students, developing a community-wide leadership development curriculum, budget management, organizational effectiveness coaching, and more. He is pursuing his doctorate in learning, leadership, and organization development, focusing on action research and supervisor development. James is a team member who provides professional learning for university faculty and staff, from organizational development to individual professional growth. James supports UGA human resource’s mission and vision by facilitating the university-wide initiatives, specifically the engage & learn initiatives that coordinate employee onboarding, mentorship, competencies, leadership development, and individual performance coaching. James completed his M.Ed. in higher education and student affairs from the University of South Carolina in 2013 and his B.A. in athletic training from the University of North Carolina – Wilmington in 2010. James enjoys spending time with his spouse, his corgi Pancake, photography, video games, gardening, and roasting his own coffee.
