Experiential Learning as a Vehicle To Engage Students

In this session, participants will gain an understanding of experiential learning opportunities at UGA. The session will specifically highlight successful experiential learning opportunities in Public Service and Outreach. Participants will be able to identify steps to establish an experiential learning opportunity in their unit.

Target Audience: PSO directors and coordinators.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify the requirements for experiential learning at UGA.
  • Identify different types of experiential learning opportunities in PSO.
  • Understand the steps needed to establish an experiential learning opportunity.

Presenters:

Mark Lupo, senior public service associate, Carl Vinson Institute of Government
Mark serves as the coordinator for the UGA CyberArch program. Prior to his current position, Mark served as the resilience specialist with the Small Business Development Center and has been with UGA for over 17 years. He currently leads a team of 24 student interns in creating and developing the CyberArch program. Mark specializes in assisting students and organizations to strengthen their cybersecurity posture and in helping prepare students for future cybersecurity careers.
Don Addison, lecturer, Institute of Leadership Advancement, Terry College of Business
Prior to coming to UGA, Don was a senior vice president for Bank of America Merrill Lynch. Don earned his doctorate degree in management from Case Western Reserve University’s Weatherhead School of Management where he investigated dynamics associated with advancing buyer-seller relations.
Aiyana Egins, program coordinator, Experience UGA, Office of Service-Learning
Aiyana began as the coordinator for Experience UGA in fall of 2021. Prior to this role, she worked for two nonprofits in Georgia focused on instilling confidence in youth. She has also served as a volunteer for Girls Inc., the American Cancer Society, National Diabetes Association, and St. Mary’s Road United Methodist church. Aiyana started her own organization, You Go Girl Enterprises, to cultivate confidence in young women through social media, events, and seminars. Aiyana holds a bachelor’s in music from Wesleyan College and is a master of music therapy candidate at UGA.
Cora Keber, director of education, State Botanical Garden of Georgia
Cora oversees program development, planning, coordination, implementation, facilitation, and evaluation for adults, children, families, university students, and the community. She also oversees the garden’s Learning by Leading, a student engagement program providing university students with experiential learning and internship opportunities.
