Networking as Speed Dating: An Interactive Demonstration

This high-energy session combines the principles of networking with the interactive, fast-paced structure of speed dating. Attendees will work with fellow participants to develop their networking self-introductions and make meaningful professional connections in a fun and engaging way.

Please note that this session will be limited to 20 participants to allow for a fully interactive experience.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Learn the importance of professional networking.
  • Develop basic skills to effectively introduce yourself and your professional goals.
  • Discuss common etiquette for follow-up, communication, and personal branding.

Presenters:

Kristi Carpenter, extension program and staff development specialist, UGA Extension (moderator)
Kristi is a staff and organizational development specialist for UGA Extension in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences. Kristi’s research interests include mentoring, facilitating adult learning, and organizational development. In her current position, she assesses the training needs of Extension agents and specialists and leads development and implementation of a comprehensive onboarding and professional development program to build content knowledge and process skills. Her educational background includes degrees in Child and Family Development and a doctorate in Adult Education.
Katy Smith, water quality program coordinator, Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant
In her role as water quality program coordinator, Katy works with diverse state, academic, and community partners to promote healthy water resources through collaborative research and outreach, field-based education and service-learning, curriculum development and classroom education, and advisory services and technical assistance. Katy grew up in Atlanta and now lives on the Georgia coast with her husband and two sons. She received her bachelor’s degree in ecology from UGA in 1997 and joined Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant in 1999.
KT Cooke, director of sales and event management, UGA Center for Continuing Education & Hotel
KT is director of sales and event management for the Georgia Center for Continuing Education & Hotel, where she oversees sales, event coordination and event services. Prior to joining UGA in 2021, KT spent 19 years leading event management teams producing upscale events in collegiate athletics. Her career roles include assistant athletics director and director of business development in both the public and private sectors. Her educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism and a Juris Doctorate.
