Volunteer Management and Engagement

In this workshop, we’ll discuss opportunities to give, serve, and connect with your community. We will share tools to help track your service and communicate your impact meaningfully. We will provide examples of how to apply these tools to your work.

Target Audience: PSO faculty and staff who interact with volunteers or collaborate with community members who interact with volunteers.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify two-to-three opportunities to give, serve, or connect in communities.
  • Gain a deeper understanding of how volunteer management tools complement the work they do.
  • Identify at least two examples where GivePulse is used to help track service.
  • Identify two-to-three best practices for volunteer management.

Presenters:

Brian Halderman, senior director of success and outreach, GivePulse
Brian has over 20 years of experience in community engagement and higher education having served as the director of the Center for Civic Engagement at the University of Texas at San Antonio and as the University Minister for Social Justice at St. Mary’s University. He has experience as a faculty member teaching a range of courses in social work, sociology and civic engagement. Brian currently serves as the senior director of success and outreach with GivePulse, a civic tech firm that supports community engagement software for nonprofits, higher education, municipalities, and corporate partners. An active member in his local community, he serves as chair of the board of the San Antonio Community Resource Directory (SACRD.org), an online resource of compassionate services offered by nonprofits, faith-based and public sector organizations. A graduate of the University of Dayton with a bachelor’s degree in religious studies, he also holds a master’s degree in social work from Washington University in St. Louis. Brian is a Licensed Master Social Worker in the state of Texas.
Cora Keber, director of education, State Botanical Garden of Georgia
Cora oversees program development, planning, coordinating, implementing, facilitating, and evaluating for adults, children, families, university students, and the community. She also oversees the garden’s Learning by Leading, a student engagement program providing university students experiential learning and internship opportunities.
Audrey S. Mitchell, children’s education coordinator, State Botanical Garden of Georgia
Audrey is the Children’s Program Coordinator at the State Botanical Garden of Georgia. She graduated from the University of Georgia with a bachelors in forest resources with an emphasis in fisheries and wildlife and has worked at various parks and nature centers around the Athens area for the last seven years, striving to share her love of nature with future generations.
Andie Bisceglia, coordinator of Campus Kitchen, Office of Service-Learning
Andie is the coordinator of the Campus Kitchen program at UGA. She graduated from UGA with a master’s degree in crop and soil sciences in 2018, and earned her bachelor’s degree in environmental studies from Bates College in 2009. She has worked in the fields of environmental, agricultural and food systems education for over 10 years throughout the East Coast.
