The Lowdown on Dossiers – Tips and Hints for Faculty Promotion

Whatever your public service faculty rank, creating a great dossier for promotion begins on day one. Those who have navigated the promotion process will share tips and hints for creating a dossier that clearly tells your PSO story. Get insider tips on how long it really takes to put it all together, how to show impact and build collaborations, and going beyond just checking all the boxes. This highly-interactive session will offer plenty of opportunities for questions, discussion, and idea exchange.

Target Audience: PSO faculty and staff.

Presenters:

Danny Bivins, senior public service associate, Carl Vinson Institute of Government
Danny joined the Institute of Government in 2012. He has extensive experience in downtown development, planning and design. Danny specializes in working with local governments utilizing an asset-based, community development approach. Prior to joining the Institute of Government, Danny spent eight years with the Fanning Institute.
Leigh Askew Elkins, senior public service associate, Carl Vinson Institute of Government
Leigh joined the Institute of Government’s Environmental Policy Program in 2012 after spending seven years with the Fanning Institute. With extensive experience in designing and implementing public engagement processes, she helps communities creatively integrate natural resource planning with the community and economic development. Leigh regularly engages in comprehensive land use planning, community visioning and strategic planning.
Shana Jones, assistant director of strategic operations and planning assistance, Carl Vinson Institute of Government; Sea Grant legal program director, Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant
Shana joined the Institute of Government in 2014 as a faculty member in the Planning and Environmental Services unit. She assists communities with managing legal and policy issues related to land use, environmental quality, and coastal flooding. Prior to joining the Institute of Government, Shana was the director of the Virginia Coastal Policy Clinic at William & Mary Law School. Her previous experience includes managing a nonprofit policy group, clerking at the federal and state levels, and working as a program manager at a Texas state agency and for the Texas Governor’s Office.
Julie Meehan, public service assistant, J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development
Julie focuses on working to build leadership capacity in nonprofit and community organizations through strategic planning processes, board and executive development, system mapping and evaluation. She leads the planning team for the Executive Leadership Program for Nonprofit Organizations (ELPNO). In addition, she has co-planned and implemented UGA’s Vivian H. Fisher PSO Leadership Academy, has led strategic planning processes for multiple nonprofits in the Athens area and elsewhere, and helps deliver the institute’s adult community leadership curriculum.
Katrina Laurel Searcy, Cook County 4-H Agent, Cooperative Extension
Beginning her career as a pediatric and surgical nurse in the Philippines, Katrina joined UGA Extension in 2018 as a 4-H and Youth Development Agent for Georgia 4-H. She earned a master’s degree in plant pathology at the University of Georgia and is pursuing a Ph.D. at UGA in agricultural leadership, education and communication with a focus on leadership. She has been invited four times as a workshop presenter at the National 4-H Summit for Healthy Living. She is also the district and statewide recipient of the Outstanding New Extension Professional Award recognized by Epsilon Sigma Phi Alpha Beta Chapter (2021) and GAE4-HYDP (2022).
