GAS: Grants Accelerate Service

This session will be a beginner’s course in getting a project idea off and running with grant funding assistance. Applying the concepts of a gas-powered engine, participants will learn why grant funding is important, the basics of driving their grant home, and the rules of the road in grant proposals. Participants will be given a few minutes of “drive time” and a mechanical overview of their proposals. This session will provide the necessary basics to reach the finish line on projects fueled by grant funding.

Target Audience: PSO faculty and staff looking to start writing grants. Beginner level experience in grant writing is required.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Identify common grant components.
  • Identify resources at UGA for grant development.
  • Understand the importance of grant funding within Public Service and Outreach.

Kirsten Cochran, grants development specialist, Public Service and Outreach
Kirsten joined PSO in January 2022. She works with faculty and staff in the eight PSO units to assist in finding, developing, and submitting grant proposals. She previously worked in higher education in southwest Georgia before moving to the Athens area with experience in professional development, strategic planning, and federal and private grant-funded programs.
